Things that once sounded like good ideas -- A Pisser!

Sometimes I wonder if I have a zillion personalities. At certain times great ideas pop into my head. I lick my lips with the anticipation of bringing these wonderful thoughts to fruition.

Later, the idea seems lame. My head gets scratched in disapproving wonder with a finger that was once raised Eureka-style above my sholder, pointing to the sky, a sky that seemed closer with the great idea that propted the pointing in the first place. Now that finger is curling itself back and forth on my scalp, digging, wondering if this mellon has anything of value in it.

Now this same finger is joined by his sisters as they peck their frustrations into a narrative, hoping that the journaling of my tom-foolery will at least be amusing for a few moments, if not to others, at least to them.

Being out-of-touch is underrated.

Being a bit smug about being out-of-touch isn't all that great though. And hence, my big problem: I'm a bit smug about being out-of-touch -- I really dig it! And I just want people to look up to me for being out of touch, for not knowing what commercial they are talking about, or who this person is in such-and-such show, or knowing what is going on in the world. But it doesn't work. My smugness nullifies the virtue of being out of touch. Then I'm back where I started. I might as well be in touch.

New stratagy: stay out of touch but don't flaunt it. Then, after years of slowly sowing the seeds that I am really, really nifty for being out of touch I might be able to gain some recognition for my superior state of being. It will be well deserved. And worth waiting for, I might add.

"One in the hand is worth two in the bush" and "nothing ventured, nothing gained" are good examples. Good examples for practice in negative capability (in the Keatsian manner). Resist the urge to reconcile the two proverbs. Let them battle each other in your mind. You, the thinkin' one, just sit back and watch; maybe take notes. Try not to influence the struggle.

If these phrases don't do it for you, try these: "Patcience is a virtue" and "Strike while the iron is hot."
The goal here is learn to be "in uncertainties, mysteries, doubts, without any irritable reaching after fact & reason." (John Keats)

And don't forget to have fun.

Yours Truly,
Johnny T

Speaking of culture, did you know that it isn't the government's job to preserve a specific culture? Yeah, it's true. I read it the other day in, "The Plain Old Truth" magazine. So when a certain cultural event or process is threatened, the government isn't supposed to step in straighten everything out.

I was really relieved to find this out.

Never let anyone tell you that America doesn't have any culture. America has the most vital culture: Mcdonalds, Rock 'n' Roll, Hollywood, Muscle Cars, Miniture Golf, Self-Righteousness, The Supreme Court, "The People's Court", Ranch Dressing, ATVs, Breakfast Cereals, Disneyland, Gangster Rap, East/West coast rivalries, Wall Street, The Mississippi, The Montana Mulitia, The Mormons, The Amish, RV trips, Daily Showers, A gigantic Military Industrial Complex, Conspirisy Theorys, Las Vegas, The Street Chase, The Rattlesnake, The Alamo, The .. . ... .. . need I say more.

Lets brush off those who think culture is something for other nations. America, even Suburbia and the Mini Mall and Quicksilver, are all distinct and strong forms of culture. You don't have to like curlture for culture to be culture. Culture dosn't have to be old to be culture. Culture doesn't have to be sophisticated to be culture. Culture just has to be culture to be culture. And America has a grip of the stuff.

Legal and moral are two different things. Yes, they overlap sometimes. But overlap and idenity are also two different things. So when something is legal, it doesn't mean it is morally good -- like fibbing or promiscuity or Country music.

Or caseroles, for that matter.

Apples and Oranges are quite comparable: they are both fist size, fruit, juiceable, they rot, have seeds, etc, etc.

So next time someone uses this crappy phrase, give them a disapproving look and say, "What are you talking about dude?"

A vote for a Democrat this fall is a vote for fiscal conservatism. With Conservatives controling both the legislative and executive branches there is unbridled spending. We all know that Conservatives just give lip service to the idea of a limited government and restrictions on spending; I mean, look at Bush and Reagan-- give them the check book and they run out of ink faster than any Democrat could.

So, if a Democrat is President, at least we will have some good old American grid-lock as the Pres. vetos all Congresse's spending.

Kids movies: a shameless toy advertisement. Toy Story and Pee-Wee's Big adventure, two examples of kids movies that glorify toy ownership. Just watch 'em, it slaps you in the face.

Once again, the Marxists do prove to have an interesting insight into the relationship between the base and the superstructure.

How come we think brainwashing is a bizzar concept? I think it goes on daily. We are all a bit brainwashed.

Let me define brainwashing for you: being convinced of something because it has been presented to you as such. It is believing ins something that isn't true because your were told it is true. So brainwashing happens all the time. Brainwashing gets you to do something because you think (key word) that things are a certain way.

But don't worry, we couldn't really function without a little brainwashing. And sometimes, brainwashing is positive. For example: as a youngster, your parents tell you the boogie-man will get you if you stay out after the street lights turn on. Well, your brainwashed because your running home in fear of the boogie-man --your acting based upon something you believe is true. But this does work out for your benefit. Little kids shouldn't be running around the streets at night --they could get hurt. So the brainwashing serves a good purpose. It is still brainwashing.

I'd like to go on, but no one is probably reading this far anyways.
