"The war we fight today is more than a military conflict," Bush told thousands of veterans at the American Legion convention. "It is the decisive ideological struggle of the 21st century."

Bush and the "terrorists" are not as different from each other as they might like to think -- both are willing to wage war for ideological reasons.

A good anti-war protest criticizes the War on Terror along these lines: the USA is willing to destroy countless lives in order to win an ideological struggle; our invasion of Iraq and support of Israel's invasion of Lebanon are justified because they are key to winning the ideological battle, not because our enemies posed an immediate and immanent threat. For this reason, the US war on terror is dangerous and, dare I say, wicked.

Because the war on terror is an ideological struggle, I worry for Venezuela. I wonder how long until they are invaded based upon trumped up reasons? The USA is constantly adding money to anti-Chavez, opposition groups, and other pro-business groups within Venezuela, constantly adding anti-Chavez propaganda, and just now appointed a spy chief for Venezuela (the only other countries to have their own US spy chief is Iran and North Korea and Cuba).

So when is this ideological stuggle going to claim another destroyed country?

Benedict Arnold -- good or bad?

Well, given that the US was stealing the colonies from the Brits, I guess you could say that Arnold came to his senses and changed sides in order to fight with the good guys and against the bad guys.

It would be like a German fighting for the Allies. We would applaud his treason.

So maybe we should revisit our judgement on Benedict Arnold -- he might not be so bad after all.

We all love the Allies in WWII.

I'm glad the Allies won.

But, the Allies also represent high level state terrorism.

Here is the British rational for arial bombardment of enemy cities:
The purpose of the area bombardment of cities was laid out in a British Air Staff paper, dated September 23 1941:
"The ultimate aim of an attack on a town area is to break the morale of the population which occupies it. To ensure this, we must achieve two things: first, we must make the town physically uninhabitable and, secondly, we must make the people conscious of constant personal danger. The immediate aim, is therefore, twofold, namely, to produce (i) destruction and (ii) fear of death."

If that isn't terrorism, I don't know what is.

If we, the good guys, are pointing our finger at Islamic militants and calling them "terrorists", remember, there are three other fingers pointing back at us.

I've been discouraged lately. Part of me thinks I should know better, part of me is just discouraged.

The actions of the USA are pretty revolting -- especially in Iraq and Lebanon. That fact isn't enough to discourage me.

What is discouraging is the fact that the Bush administration would not be able to destroy the lives of millions without the support of the Christian Church. Bible believing Christians are his rock solid support -- he would not be in office without them nor would there be sufficient popular support for his crazy policies.

This makes me sad -- that American Christianity is responsible for countless destroyed lives. The American Christian love of military action and global economic dominance destroys lives in the name of Jesus.

To add to the problem, people like me are thought of as crazy or off-base in the Christian Church. The fact that I don't support our military action and I don't believe in the Theology of Capitialism is enough to write me off as a left-wing looney. This makes me sad and discouraged.

I like stories with protagonists who are willing to be killed off. Hero and Last of the Mohekiens are examples. I also like it when the antagonists are portrayed as those who will do anything for their own self preservation.

I think I like these movies because they portray an ethic that feels relatively comfortable to me as a Christian -- the ethic being the will to wrongfully suffer instead of willing to inflict suffering, even to those who deserve it.

That ethic is relativley comfortable in comparison with its coresponding standard pop-plot lines -- where the hero is a vindictive underdog, against all odds socking it to the man who has it coming.

Being a New Testament believer, recompensing an eye for an eye just doesn't jive with the image of Christ I'm supposed to emulate.

Though I don't feel compeled to find types and shadows in stories, I do find that I can sympethize with a character if we have overlapping sentiments. Having a relatively strong bond of sympathy with a character makes for a more powerful and moving movie-watching experience. That's why I think I like stories were the protagonists are willing to be killed off.

The modern Western World has created the most dangerous ideology in recorded history. This ideology is a disgusting mixture of Christianity, Enlightenment Foundationalism, and free market economics. This ideological concoction has taken its firmest roots in contemporary America. The result is fleets of fanatics and extreemists who not only think it is valiant to die for this world view, but think it is morally upright to sacrifice scores of unwilling volunteers for this cause.

Those infected with this ideology are very comfortable with bloodshed, as long as it happens to poor people and dark colored people and people with different beliefs systems.

A trail of death and destruction follows in their wake.

Bewitched, they can only see beauty and light where ever thier murderous rubber meets the worlds unfortunate roads.
