Dancer in the Dark
If you never heard of this film that is because it wasn't in wide release. More often than not, that means it's worth watching. ![]() Rating: ![]() Eccentric rock artist Bjork leads this cast of not-too-familiars. You'll probably recognize David Morse (12 Monkeys, Proof of Life) if none other. Bjork plays Selma, a poor Czechoslovakian woman stricken with a hereditary disease that is causing her to grow blind. Selma and her son Jean have moved to America where Selma works in a factory and performs other odd jobs in order to save up enough money to afford a surgery for Jean which will save his vision. Relevant to the plot and direction of the story is Selma's passion for musicals. Other details are reserved for those who watch the film, so as not to take anything from it. Although the story may sound a bit strange, it's definitely worth a rental. This picture is touching and well-acted. If you are a fan of musicals and anything experimental then you will enjoy this film. |
