Rat Race
I decided to rate this film at one and a half slush puppies. I was sort of borderline between one and a half and two until Smashmouth makes an appearance in the film performing "All Star". Definitely a few demerits for that one. ![]() Rating: ![]() Otherwise, I like this film. You will too if you're looking for a comedy that doesn't require sexual innuendo/crotch humor to choke out a few laughs from the baffoonish popluation at large (present readers excluded of course). This picture features a load of familiar faces. John Cleese (looking older than death) plays a rich casino owner with an interesting twist on the pleasures and vices of gambling. Among the supporting cast members are Jon Lovitz (in his singular role...did someone say typecast?), Whoopi Goldberg (but she's not annoying in this one), Seth Green (in a David Spade look-alike contest), Rowan Atkinson (you know him as Mr. Bean), Cuba Gooding, Jr, and Wayne Knight (the ever-lovable Newman). Oh my goodness! I really needed this film to wash the taste of putrification out of my mouth after seeing Rush Hour 2 the previous night. The sheer (how on earth do you spell) ludicrouousosness of the capers that our characters find themselves in makes this film a winner. |
